A can't miss night of comedy

Tonight, basic cable's best comedies return as Monk and Psych make their season premieres on the USA network. Emmy-award winner Tony Shaloub returns as Adrian Monk, the obsessive-compulsive detective. In the 7th season premiere, Monk tries to overcome his fear of change as he moves into a new house. Brad Garrett guest stars as a handyman. The 3rd season premiere of Psych immediately follows. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, the premise is one of the best comedy set ups I've ever heard. James Roday stars as Shawn Spencer. Shawn has been very observant since he was a child, and he decides he is going to use his "hyper-observancy" to start a psychic detective agency. He and his best friend Gus (Dule Hill) solve crimes for the Santa Barbara police department, all while Shawn is pretending to be a psychic. Tonight, Cybill Shepherd guest stars as Shawn's estranged mother, and Gus thinks about quitting the agency. Want to get a taste of the show before tonight? A Psych marathon runs from 9am-5pm today.

Last night on Last Comic Standing, for the second straight week Iliza Shlezingher staved off elimination. She out-performed English comedian Paul Foot and Indian comic Papa CJ in front of a packed crowd in Los Angeles. Iliza is the only female competitor left in a largely man's world. However, she has proven that she has the material, and perhaps the remaining men will think twice before challenging her to the elimination stage.

What's On?
Of course, my picks for tonight are the season premieres of Monk at 9/8c and Psych at 10/9c on the USA network. The original programing on the USA network is taking it to the top of basic cable.
